DESCRIPTION

The Bohr model of the atom describes how the chemical properties of an element are related to the arrangement of its electrons in shells around a central nucleus. An understanding of this model is required knowledge in most High School Science courses.

This application illustrates the Bohr model of the atom in an easy to understand interactive display that allows the user to explore how elements are arranged in the Periodic Table. You can use swipes to move through the elements in atomic number order or within the different chemical Groups of the Periodic Table.

HOW IT WORKS

Select an element in the opening Table View to see its electron configuration. The Table can be sorted in order of Names, Atomic Number, Symbol or Group.

Tap on the selected Electron Shell Diagram to flip for a brief description of the element and to see its position in the Periodic Table.

Swipe vertically on a Shell Diagram or its flipped view to move up or down through the elements in its group.

Swipe horizontally to move through the elements in increasing or decreasing atomic number order.

Use these navigation features to help you understand the differences and similarities between elements based on their electron shell configurations.
